A Personal Reflection on Growth, Purpose, and Possibility through Amantombazana

Beginnings and Challenges

Before Amantombazana, life felt unpredictable and clouded with self-doubt. I often believed my aspirations were too ambitious for someone like me. Opportunities seemed scarce, and I wasn’t sure I had what it took to succeed.

I saw myself as quiet and uncertain—someone with potential, but lacking direction and confidence. I wanted more, but I didn’t yet believe I deserved more.

Still, I dreamed of a time when I could break down barriers for my family, my community, and myself. I longed to be educated, self-sufficient, and an inspiration to young girls. Though that vision felt distant, it fueled me.

What inspired me most was the desire to change the narrative—not just for myself, but for the girls who would come after me. I was tired of feeling stuck and underestimated. I wanted to break the cycle and prove, first to myself and then to others, that I was capable of more. The thought of making my family proud and creating a brighter future gave me the courage to begin.

The Academic Journey

My favorite classes were Communication Skills and Development Planning. Communication Skills helped me find my voice—it taught me how to express myself clearly and confidently, whether in front of a group or in one-on-one conversations. Development Planning gave me the tools to set meaningful goals and chart the steps to achieve them. Both classes left me feeling more prepared for the future and more in control of my journey.

The mentorship sessions were a turning point. Guided by women who had walked similar paths, I began to see what was possible. The safe spaces created during workshops allowed me to speak, share, and grow into my voice.

Through Amantombazana, I learned to believe in myself. I developed confidence, time management, and communication skills. I also discovered the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the responsibility of lifting others as you climb.

Growth and Vision

Today, I am strong, self-aware, and growing every day. I’ve learned to stand tall in rooms where I once felt invisible. I am a leader in my own right. I’m proud of not giving up on myself. I’m proud of showing up, even when it was hard. I’m proud of every step that has brought me closer to the woman I want to become.

Right now, I’m in a transitional season. Though I don’t yet have a job, I am actively pursuing opportunities that will help me grow, gain experience, and build a strong foundation for the future. At the same time, I’m exploring the idea of starting my own business—something that aligns with my passions and has the potential to uplift my community.

Eventually, I want to be independent, strong, and able to use my work to inspire others. For me, success isn’t just about achievement. It’s about living a life aligned with my values, serving others through my gifts, and creating impact that lasts.

A Word to Young Girls

You are enough. Don’t wait for permission to dream big. Take every opportunity to learn. Don’t be afraid to fail—every challenge is shaping the powerful woman you are becoming. You’ve got this!

Herzel’s story is more than a personal reflection; it is a message of hope for young women everywhere.
