Redefining Success: Hopewell’s Vision for Food and Sustainability

Hopewell Dube’s journey is one of curiosity and determination, fueled by a love for science and a desire to make a difference in people’s lives. From her early fascination with food to her pursuit of a career in food science and technology, Hopewell’s story reflects the power of passion, perseverance, and support. Through Amantombazana, she found the opportunities, mentorship, and community she needed to transform her dreams into a clear vision for the future.

Beginnings and Challenges

Before joining Amantombazana, I was a high school student with a deep passion for science and food. I was eager to understand the world around me and to explore how I could use knowledge to make a positive impact.

I saw myself as a curious and determined individual—always looking for ways to expand my skills and deepen my understanding. Yet, I wasn’t certain about what opportunities lay ahead or how to fully pursue my interest in food science.

My dream was to build a career in food science and technology. I imagined improving food safety, creating new products, and championing sustainable agriculture. At times, it felt daunting—like a goal too far out of reach. But my mother inspired me to take the first step. She encouraged me to follow my passions, never give up on my dreams, and always approach life with dedication and resilience.

My Academic Journey

Once I began my journey with Amantombazana, my passion truly found direction. My favorite classes became Food Microbiology and Food Processing Technology. They fascinated me because they revealed the science behind food spoilage, foodborne illnesses, and the methods we use to preserve food safely. I loved exploring the techniques and technologies that drive innovation in the food industry.

The program itself made a tremendous impact. Amantombazana opened doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise—providing financial support, access to experienced professionals, and a network of like-minded peers. Along the way, my lecturers and fellow students gave me invaluable encouragement and guidance.

Through this journey, I developed skills that go far beyond academics: critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, time management, adaptability, and communication. More importantly, I gained a deep passion for food science and a clear sense of purpose to use it in ways that improve lives.

“For me, success is about impact—creating innovative food products, improving safety standards, and promoting sustainable practices. But success also means never standing still: it’s about continuous learning and growing, both as a professional and as a person.”

Growth and Vision

Today, I see myself as a confident and determined young professional, equipped with the knowledge and skills to build a career in food science and technology. I’m proud of how far I’ve come—especially my academic achievements and the chance to apply my learning during my year-long industrial attachment. Balancing studies, personal growth, and extracurricular activities has been a journey of discipline and discovery.

Now in my final year of pursuing a degree in Food Science and Technology, I’m focusing on food safety and quality assurance. I’m excited about entering an industry where the work directly touches people’s lives.

For me, success is about impact—creating innovative food products, improving safety standards, and promoting sustainable practices. But success also means never standing still: it’s about continuous learning and growing, both as a professional and as a person.

If I could send a message to my younger self—or to any young girl beginning her journey—I would say this: Believe in yourself. Trust your abilities. Don’t be afraid to take risks and chase your passions. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. And above all, never let go of your dreams.

Hopewell’s story reminds us that with the right encouragement and opportunities, young people can discover their purpose and thrive in fields that shape our world. Her passion for food science and commitment to making a positive impact highlight the transformative power of education and mentorship. She continues to walk her journey with confidence, inspiring others to believe in themselves and to never give up on their dreams.
