The Power of Belief: How Amantombazana Shaped Silindumusa’s Future
Silindumusa Mlauzi’s story is one of resilience, determination, and the power of support. From losing her parents at a young age to facing the financial hurdles of higher education, she never let adversity define her. With the help of Amantombazana, Silindumusa found not only the resources to pursue her studies but also the confidence to embrace her dreams.
Here’s what she has to say.
Beginnings and Challenges
Before I started my academic journey with Amantombazana, life was filled with challenges. I had lost my parents at a young age and was raised by my grandmother, who selflessly supported me from primary through secondary school. But when I completed my advanced level, financial constraints became a major barrier to pursuing tertiary education. My grandmother, who had already sacrificed so much, simply could not afford to send me to university.
That’s when Amantombazana stepped in and changed everything. Their support was a turning point, giving me the resources and guidance I needed to focus on my studies, build confidence, and chase my dreams.
Looking back, I see myself as a determined and resilient young person. Despite the heartbreak of losing my parents and facing financial struggles, I held onto hope and the strong desire to be educated. Though my future felt uncertain, I refused to let circumstances define me. Amantombazana’s belief in me gave me the confidence to press on and strive for excellence.
Initially, I dreamed of studying law at the University of Zimbabwe. When I didn’t meet the entry requirements, I pivoted to Journalism and Media Studies at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). This opened up new opportunities for growth that I hadn’t imagined, and I am deeply grateful for the journey.
My grandmother’s sacrifices remain my greatest inspiration. Having raised me after losing my parents, she motivated me to pursue education with all my heart. I was also encouraged by role models like Dr. Priscilla Mntungwa Ndlovu, who showed me the power of independence and the importance of education.
My Academic Journey
At NUST, I particularly enjoyed my Reporting and Writing classes. They gave me the opportunity to sharpen my storytelling skills, conduct interviews, and engage with real-world issues. Journalism allowed me to merge my academic interests with my passion for human rights, equipping me to tell stories that amplify marginalized voices.
Several people and organizations shaped this journey. Amantombazana’s mentorship and financial support provided the foundation for success. My lecturers and peers in the Journalism and Media Studies department inspired me with their passion and dedication. Media outlets like Voice of America and NGO News Digest also influenced me, showing how powerful journalism can be in shaping society.
“Amantombazana’s support transformed my life. It gave me the confidence to push forward, the strength to overcome obstacles, and the chance to turn dreams into possibilities.”

Through this journey, I’ve gained not only academic knowledge but also resilience, critical thinking, empathy, and a deep sense of social responsibility. These lessons continue to guide me today.
Now: Growth and Vision
I am proud of overcoming adversity—the loss of my parents, financial struggles, and self-doubt—to complete my degree in Journalism and Media Studies. I’m equally proud of the resilience, confidence, and skills I have built along the way.
Today, I describe myself as determined, compassionate, and ambitious. I am passionate about human rights and committed to using my voice and skills to drive positive change. Currently, I work in NUST’s Admissions and Student Records department while aspiring to pursue a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication.
For me, success is about telling impactful stories, building a strong body of work, and using my platform to spark conversations that matter.
If I could speak to my younger self, I would say:
Believe in yourself—your hard work will carry you far.
Don’t fear risks or stepping out of your comfort zone—it’s how growth happens.
Surround yourself with those who uplift you—they will help you unlock your full potential.
Silindumusa’s journey reflects the transformative power of education, mentorship, and community. From her grandmother’s sacrifices to the support of Amantombazana, she has turned challenges into stepping stones toward a future of impact. As she continues her path in journalism, human rights, and communication, her story serves as a reminder that resilience and opportunity together can change lives.
